You're curious about who you are, how you view the world. You're uncertain of how to connect with others... groups of people can feel overwhelming. You may have been called “ too sensitive” in the past. I consider therapy to be, at core, about relationship. So much of our trauma as humans is interpersonal. Psychotherapy has the transformational potential to practice again (or perhaps for the first time) associating human relationships with safety rather than threat.
In sessions, I trust your body and brain to be the best judge of what you need. Together, each week, we sit with whatever is in your system - irritability, delight, melancholy, restlessness, doubt, joy, rage, shame - each of these experiences serve as trail markers indicating what is important to a part of you. I bring compassion and curiosity to all.
Vulnerability deepens relational bonds. Please don't hesitate to show up exactly as you are - even if that looks like not knowing what to talk about on a given day. This group might be for you if you're bored with small talk, want to show up in social situations "un-masked", or have prior, or currently, utilize alcohol/drugs to feel more at ease around others. Additionally, some points of connection may be LGBTQIA+ identity, and/or not quite feeling "seen" in a variety of important ways by your family of origin. Group therapy acts as a supported practice space to widen your window of tolerance for the awkward and ambivalent work of connecting with other people. This ongoing group will meet ONLINE beginning Tuesday, September 10th, 2024.
