On my 30th birthday, I walked home alone. I had a great night with friends, flirted with girls at the bar, but I had a feeling that there was something much richer out there for me. I didn’t know it at the time, but I needed a loving partnership that enabled everything else I wanted in life, and it was up to me to prioritize finding it. The journey continued, eventually finding me in therapy myself. With a nurturing but challenging therapist, I began to realize that I would often get trapped in a big feeling, feel overwhelmed, and move away from it. Growth started to come from listening and learning from internal discomfort.
I specialize in working with people who want better relationships. Often my clients wrestle with anxiety, depression, codependency, trauma, or addiction. I see adults and couples, and facilitate a men's group from a lens of cultural humility. I use attachment-focused EMDR, Buddhist philosophy, EFT, and IFS to inform my relational approach.
Ultimately, I believe the quality of our relationships shapes the quality of our lives, and I try to bring this truth into the room. Clients describe me as warm, humorous, and calming. Groups
Men's Process Group
This ongoing group is for any man who is interested in deepening their relational capacity. Within a secure and supportive environment, participants will use sharing, reading, writing, and guided meditation to nurture relational skills. Themes of the group may include feeling more ease in relationships, understanding relationship patterns, releasing unhealthy beliefs around intimacy, gaining a clearer sense of what is needed in relationships, and connecting with like minded men striving toward similar goals. The group is limited to 8 participants at a time. The group will start October 21. Group admission is by consultation with Ben, please email benbernsteintherapy@gmail.com if you are interested.
