Dr. van der Kolk writes that "Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives." My approach to therapy is grounded in this concept. I believe that healing from emotional suffering takes place when the client feels deeply heard and understood. I believe that effective therapy is a collaborative process between client and therapist and that my job is to hold the space for my clients to explore the fears and anxieties that impede their growth and sense of well being.
Human beings are social animals. We want to belong. Our brains are wired to connect with others. Social isolation, dissatisfying relationships, out-of-control emotions that drive others away create intense emotional suffering. I help clients grapple with how their problems interfere with their ability to connect with others.
If you have a deep desire for love but you’re also afraid you might never break free from the toxic patterns you were raised with (you absolutely can!); If you’re excited about the idea that the future is not determined by your past, and that you can create an entirely different outcome through the intention you set right in this moment, I can help you.

This class is offered via Zoom. The RO DBT Skills Class is a structured 30-week class based on a breakthrough, evidence-based protocol for treating chronic depression, anxiety and loneliness stemming from too much self-control also known as over control (OC). Overcontrol is a problem of loneliness, not from a lack of contact but from a lack of connection with others. In an RO DBT Skills Class, group members learn how to connect with others, how to form close social bonds, how to feel emotionally safe with other people and how to minimize anxiety and depression, and develop self compassion and self acceptance.
