Addiction psychology, alcohol and drug counseling is what we do. I am unusual as a director of this practice because I am 1) a psychologist 2) a certified alcohol and drug counselor and 3) I'm over 30 years sober myself but 4) I don't insist that people be sober if they don't want to be or aren't ready. This approach is called, "harm reduction". While we offer counseling for compulsive behaviors like, gambling, internet, computer and gaming addictions, our focus is relationships, depression, anxiety and other mental health & psychological treatment & counseling. We each have specific specialties and practice very similarly.

Addiction psychology is only a primary focus. Psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches, mindfulness and evidence based practices. Trusting that clients know how to steer the direction for what should be discussed in therapy. There are many ways of doing therapy and we can figure out together what will work best.

The HRAA Group, (harm reduction and abstinence) is Wed night 7:00 till 8:30. Jeremy Frank PhD, CADC and Carla Runnels LPC are leaders. This virtual group is for people who want to minimize harm from drug or alcohol use or maintain abstinence. 75.00 per 1.5 hr long sessions. It's a fun, relaxed group which is essential if people want to make changes with drugs and alcohol. We emphasize honesty and caring over abstinence. Learning to be honest with others in our group when you are ready on your own time is critical to recovery. .

This group is for folks who are interested in exploring the role drugs or alcohol or other compulsive behaviors play in their lives. It is a high functioning group that meets online and roughly half the folks are choosing abstinence and the other half are working towards reducing harm from use and dependency in their lives. This group is a therapy group and most of the focus is on general therapy issues in addition to the above such as relationships, stress, self esteem, family and other psychological concerns.
