In my 19 years as a therapist, I have worked with a range of clients, such as co-dependency, anger, OCD, phobias, panic disorders, and PTSD & trauma with individuals, couples, and families, and I have learned every client is vastly different. One thing that is the same is that the goal for the client is always moving towards living kind of the life they want to live. What that looks like is different for everyone because we all have our own set of values. But the stronger our values, the harder it can be to accept ourselves and others in the world. I help clients find that balance for themselves!
There are a lot of practitioners who say they are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists but are not actually certified. I am certified in CBT, REBT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REBT), and TEAM-CBT (https://feelinggood.com). I also practice Exposure Therapy, EMDR, and ACT (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/acceptance-and-commitment-therapy).
What I find clients want the most is to feel validated. This is undoubtedly important and required, but it's just not enough to make true, lasting change. My clients see me as compassionate, funny, and, most importantly, I am not the type of therapist who sits back and nods their head the entire session. I challenge clients and get results without judgment.

I was initially trained in Family therapy behind a two-way mirror, which was invaluable. I then became interested in Cognitive-behavioral therapy and became certified in various types. I now know it's important to see a therapist certified by one of the schools of CBT.

My approach centers around the concept of the "Inner Critic" that haunts us daily, telling us why we're not good enough and/or why others aren't as well. For OCD, I use Exposure and Response Prevention but also have found that inference-based Cognitive-behavioral therapy (iCBT) gives clients more than just facing their fears and accepting them. iCBT actually decreases obsessional doubt over time!

TEAM-CBT is Cognitive-behavioral therapy on steroids, created by CBT pioneer David Burns. TEAM-CBT looks at the aspect of therapy that most modalities ignore which is why some people can have all the knowledge and techniques, but can't get that "gut level" change. The reason is resistance, and TEAM-CBT shows us that our negative thoughts actually reflect our values and what we stand for in life!
