As an infant and early childhood mental health provider, my role is to support anyone caring for children, parents, or caregivers. This includes pregnant people, partners/spouses, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, medical providers, educators, childcare workers... Sometimes this means therapy for the adult, or the child, and often for both.
I have spent most of my career helping families: as a volunteer, a childcare worker, a teacher, and for the last twelve years as a counselor. And, most importantly to me, as a mom. If we the adults are not OK, how do we expect the children we care for and about to be OK? Come have a snack or grab a cup of coffee or tea, and we'll figure it out together.
