I provide empirically supported treatment to help clients address depression, anxiety, and other common psychological concerns. I also work with clients navigating significant life, career, and health transitions. My primary approach to treatment combines cognitive behavioral and narrative therapy strategies. My goals in therapy are to establish a strong therapeutic relationship as clients develop insight into their problems, and to help clients deepen their personal relationships, adopt healthier ways of thinking, and lead more productive and rewarding lives.

Prior to starting my private practice I was director of the Counseling Center at the University of San Diego for many years, and I worked in other university settings before that. My volunteer work has included working for a women's shelter, a Red Cross Disaster Response Team, and a literacy program for Latino immigrants.

I'm from the U.S., but grew up in Latin America, so I work with clients who speak Spanish. I’m also a LGTBQ ally. I've received the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors' "Lifetime Achievement" award, and the South Carolina Psychological Association's "Outstanding Contribution to Psychology" award.
