I support parents who are feeling overwhelmed, tired, and frustrated by their children's behavior. My clients feel like they have tried everything - read books, listened to podcasts, and still they are shocked by their child's, tween's, or teen's behaviors. At their wit's end, my clients find that they default to yelling, taking devices, play dates, and outings away from their child in an effort for their child to behave. Some of my clients are in therapy and their therapist has encouraged them to seek out parenting support.
As a developmentalist, I coach parents to start to look at their kids' behaviors as a symptom of unmet needs. We work to uncover what those unmet needs are and rather than using reward and punishment, I help parents learn how to connect with their child in powerful ways that engage their child's desire to listen and cooperate.
Parenting in today's climate is very challenging. Parents have to work harder to make ends meet and there's less time for downtime. Kids are demanding and we're feeling the affects of a phone-based childhood. Many parents lack familial and community support and are more isolated. Parent coaching can provide a life support in these rough waters.
