People’s Therapy of Chicago treats people struggling with: addictive use of substances or behaviors, anxiety, depression, relationship stress, job stress and the lasting impact of trauma. If you're considering therapy but aren't sure, then you've come to the right place. Most people who see us have little to no experience with therapists or therapy. Many are uncomfortable asking for help, believing it is a sign of "weakness." Others come from families where "staying strong," and keeping "personal business" in the family was the norm. Whatever the story, they are able to open up to us.
We work with adults and adolescents. Here are some reasons people contact us: feeling depressed or anxious. Trouble saying "no." Caring too much what others think. Drinking, using substances, gambling, self harm (cutting, burning, more). Over-eating. Fixation on their body. Holding secrets. Social anxiety.
In our first session we’ll complete an assessment. In follow-up sessions we'll work on finding solutions and setting goals. Length of treatment varies from person to person. Usually you'll know in a few sessions if we're a good fit.

Men's Group Therapy
This group is for adult men who struggle with any of the following: poor self-esteem, significant stress, under or over-functioning, negative self-talk, social anxiety, eating disorders, substance use, social isolation. I love groups because I get to help clients work through the toughest of challenges: interacting with others in real-time, being open and vulnerable, expressing hurt and anger, asking for help, receiving help. For me, this is the stuff of life! And I get to feel useful when I help others become better at life. The men's group meets weekly for ninety minutes.
