In today's world, there is little time for reflection, for nurturing relationships, mentoring our children, or caring for our elderly parents. We often need a refuge from the confusion we experience in our daily lives, a time to clarify what's important and what's not important, as well as a safe place to begin making changes. I offer psychotherapeutic services based on the interrelation of body, mind, and emotion. Together, we will endeavor to examine our feelings and link them to words, connecting personal history with current life events and relationships.
Interpersonal psychotherapy, based on neuro-affective biology, helps us understand the embodied process of affect regulation. Being able to "self-regulate" is vital to integrated psychological development, allowing us to begin and maintain satisfying relationships, particularly after experiencing traumatic events.
In psychotherapy, we work together to understand how both unusual and normal life events may interfere with our well-being. We talk about our feelings in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. With cultural humility, special attention is devoted to embracing interracial partnerships, acculturation, or multiculturalism.
