Dealing with unexpected new experiences can be scary and exhausting but also hopeful and exhilarating. Scary and exhausting, because we don’t know what is to come and are stumbling in the dark. Hopeful and exhilarating because new beginnings are full of promise and an opportunity to do it over. Adopting a “beginner’s mind” we can approach the vagaries of life with openness and find the courage to explore different ways of viewing our situation. As a therapist I help my clients develop the resilience they already have within them and to find courage in the face of adversity.
I provide an accepting environment where it is safe to confront inner insecurities. Working psychodynamically, I help my clients mobilize resources to heal old wounds. In times when we need to face anxieties and sadness head-on, I can work in a short-term modality integrating emotion regulation strategies, mindfulness, and CBT techniques.
I believe all humans are capable of mustering their own resilience to find their way through dark times and emerge as nobler and wiser beings. As Viktor Frankl said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” Have courage and reach out! I look forward to our journey together.
