Are you struggling with loneliness? A lot of people I work with feel emotionally lonely, socially disconnected, and exhausted. They are often high-achieving perfectionists, who may appear to be doing great but, on the inside, they feel a deeper sense of despair. They believe or have been told they are “too much” or fear burdening others. This can manifest in disordered patterns of eating, compulsive exercise, and attending engagements out of obligation instead of enjoyment. Radically Open (RO) DBT, a new evidenced based treatment that targets emotional loneliness, teaches skills to increase flexibility and openness.
I’ve been intensely trained in RO DBT. I see individuals, offer skills classes, and use RO to inform my work as an art therapist. I find art making complimentary to RO theory. It aids in experiencing the vulnerability and openness, while actively learning from the discomfort that often accompanies art making.
I am deeply moved by the change I have witnessed in clients I’ve worked with and feel passionate about sharing my skillset to help others. I am humanistic in my approach, use a multicultural framework, anti-diet, anti-racist lens. I am a fat-liberation advocate, and a firm believer in the magic of art making and power of connection.
