I have come to believe people want relief more than they want insight. Insight can be a byproduct of a nervous system that has room to think. More often than not, when I help people slow down, come in contact with their positive and negative emotions, this is more effective than working hard to explain your feelings away. The best I can do for you is to help you feel comfortable exploring all of your emotional depths. With that knowledge, you’ll feel comfortable taking on new challenges. The idea is to get you away from chronic activation. Moving out of the cycle of constant stress and moving into the cycle of feeling at ease.
We’ll set some long-term goals to help keep things in focus, but we’ll take the short-term approach of what's helpful for you on that day. Usually, working with the resistance that shows up will give you the best results. Sometimes, however, it’s more helpful to reinforce what feels right and not take things too far. It’s all about going one step at a time.
