My primary goal is to help you make effective changes in your life and relationships. I am compassionate and caring, but I firmly believe that therapy should be more than just supportive talking. I want to hear what you have been struggling with and help you understand how you continue to fall into the same patterns. But I also want to diagnose your situation, present treatment options based on a knowledge of what works, and support your efforts as you learn to identify and transform old patterns of thinking and behaving. I want to help you become less “stuck” and live according to your values – and that is not always easy!
We learn to laugh at our humanity, appreciate our failures as opportunities, choose how we experience our emotions, and learn to examine and question our thinking. We gain insight into who we are so that we have more choice in the process. It is an active form of therapy, but I want to help you achieve results. Psychology can do better than just listen.
My expertise is in treating anxiety disorders. I want to help you learn to face and overcome your fears, because trying to avoid anxiety is what gives it power over our lives. I also enjoy working with couples, because many of the conflicts we experience in our close relationships are driven by anxiety (e.g., fear of rejection, being vulnerable, etc.).
