Many of us struggle on a daily basis with intrusive thoughts caused by traumatic memories, stress, shame, and/or loss of meaning and purpose. We are often left feeling anxious or depressed, angry, and disconnected from the world as we try to make sense of our experiences. If you're like most of us, you've likely learned to cope through addiction, codependency, and mental or physical illness. Yet, you're also keenly aware that your experiences have the potential to transcend pain by creating meaning. The search for meaning gives rise to understanding, and with understanding comes healing.
Growing up in a dysfunctional home, I can relate to early childhood experiences of trauma, codependency, and addiction. Yet I also possess first-hand knowledge and experience of the complex trauma issues associated with military service, narcissistic abuse, marginalization, generational cycles of addiction and alcoholism, and loss of meaning and purpose.
Those experiences have shaped the person I am today. At times overwhelming and seemingly insurmountable, that suffering pushed me to be uncompromising in my desire to cultivate empathy, acceptance, strength, joy, and resiliency. I see your ability to change; to grow, not as the result of your traumatic experiences, but as a product of your desire to endure.
