Questioning your belief system or processing negative experiences that occurred in religious or tight-knit social contexts can be lonely and frightening. Those who speak up about their questions, thoughts and feelings, or traumatic events within the community often feel shame and isolation. Too often, they are left wondering, “Is something wrong with me?” This sense of isolation usually means people suffer quietly, feeling as though there is nowhere to turn.
As a former pastor’s kid within a fundamentalist culture, I understand the nuances in conservative social groups that others may find foreign or odd. This background, combined with a Master of Social Work, has led to my work with those who no longer fit within their religious or social community, and those who have been harmed by people within these systems.
Know that whatever your background or struggle, you will be accepted in my office. Therapy will be a collaborative experience where we work together to learn what helps you to heal, gain clarity, and move forward. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story.
