Welcome! I am an expert at helping couples work through relationship problems. If you've been hurt by an affair, you don't feel safe to share your true feelings with your partner, you seem to fight all the time, or can't seem to get on the same page, I can help. My therapy is domestic violence and trauma-informed (I thoroughly and continually assess for safety, I pay attention to how your body feels in session, and I help you to work through past trauma), emotionally-focused (I help you to have a different emotional experience with each other in-session), and culturally-sensitive (I help you to find harmony in your differences).
When I meet with my clients, I first want to know about your past - how was your childhood? Who did you go to when you felt scared growing up? What kind of messaging did you receive about topics such as marriage, relationships, children, gender, sex, etc.? How was your relationship at the start? In what ways has it changed over time?
After the initial session, I meet with couples separately - this is where I assess for things such as substance use, addictions, mental health issues, affairs, violence, emotional control, and other things you may not feel comfortable sharing with your partner yet. Then, if couples therapy is deemed appropriate, we make a plan for moving forward.
