My approach to therapy is psychoanalytically informed, borrowing tools from cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches. I take time to get to know the person in their present day-to-day life, as well looking carefully at past history, patterns of thought and behavior, and relationship dynamics. My goal is for my clients to develop a deepened relationship to themselves. This work involves us partnering to find language and create structures that facilitate change.
Many of my clients are struggling with careers or relationships. I am especially attuned to the joys and pitfalls of creative work and see artists of all types. I work with individuals from many cultural and religious backgrounds, and am sensitive to those negotiating relationship to tradition/ family with respect to their own self-understanding.
Also, as a clinician at The Renfrew Center of New York, and for over 10 years in private practice, I have made the treatment of eating disorders and body image concerns a specialty and passion. I understand the unique treatment demands and the challenges these issues present medically, as well as in relationship life.
