Although I believe that the goals of therapy are always first and foremost determined by my clients, I generally hold the hope for each of them that they will find more joy in life. To that end, I believe in an eclectic theoretical approach, one that draws on a wide range of perspectives including humanist/existential philosophy, Jungian psychodynamics, trauma-informed and client-centered practice, because I believe people are eclectic. Because I have both personal and professional experience with this work, I view the relationship between client and therapist as central and fundamental to the therapeutic process being effective.
No one therapeutic approach is more correct than another, they simply describe different aspects of our experience. I seek first to understand what aspects of my client’s psyche are causing them pain, then to help them out of their pain in whatever way will be most effective for them, and finally to help them find meaning in their painful experiences.
I have experience working with young adults and adults who have experienced relationship issues, dysfunctional family dynamics, trauma, addiction, personality disorders, depression and anxiety. I primarily work with clients long-term, believing in the importance of building a therapeutic relationship so they feel secure to do in-depth work and maintenance.
