My work specializes in trauma informed care and spiritually focused counseling. I am trained in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. I have learned throughout the years that thorough healing comes not only from addressing our wounds and traumas but from a deep exploration of what we have decided about ourselves and our place in the world. I am highly valued as a compassionate, competent therapist who will provide understanding and skills that support moving through and coping with traumatic events/responses recent and past, and the spiritual evolution born out of traumatic wounds.

Taking New Clients! You're tired of pretending everything is fine! You feel like your heart is broken. You've lost sight of who you are and are desperate to find your inner spark again. You feel like you can't move forward because of things that have happened in the past, and you are fearful of the future. There's so much in your head that you don't even know where to start to find peace. You want a safe, confidential space to share your story with someone who listens and understands without judgment. Let's get you moving forward!

Focusing on peak performance and maximizing functioning leads to happiness, feeling content, and reduced negative self-impressions. Regardless of whether your performing in athletics, the arts, medicine, or human interaction, it is important to recognize both what is working to optimize performance (building consistency) and what is holding you back (mitigating challenges and overcoming difficulties). Focusing on the core competencies of self-awareness (knowing what is going on in your mind and performance) and self-management (how to take control of your true potential through mindset, behavior, and engagement) goals are realized.

I believe that we all seek love, acceptance, and belonging. When experiences lead us to internalize a shame message that we are not enough, we can develop ways of interacting with the world that, though helpful in the past, are no longer working (or may even be harmful). This can bring on issues related to anxiety, depression, shame and low-self-esteem, feeling out of control of your emotions, and conflicts in your relationships. As overwhelming as life can feel, I truly believe finding freedom and healing is possible and consider it a privilege to support you in this process.

Well hello there , my name is Lavoyche, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. We all have experienced trauma in some form of fashion, which can render us hopeless and helpless. You may experience depression, anxiety, self harm, and suicidal ideations that overwhelm your life. We often become prisoners in our own prison unable to realize that we hold the keys to release us from that prison. I will help you identify tools to move forward from your past trauma, how to take back your life, and live freely .

I believe that everyone has the capacity and strength to make meaningful changes in their lives. For over ten years, I have helped adults of all backgrounds and identities work through symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, trauma and addiction. I also have experience helping individuals navigate the emotional distress of surviving violence, homelessness and the criminal justice system. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a validating experience and an essential component of the healing process. We all need a space to feel safe enough to express ourselves without judgement or shame.

As a neurodiverse, biromantic, asexual, non-binary person, I recognize the need for therapists who are open and affirming of client identities. I have seen people change through the power of genuine, non-judgmental counseling that allows people a safe space to look at themselves and how they want to fit into the world. My goal is to provide that same warmth and compassion in a way that is tailored to fit an individual’s needs. I firmly believe that everyone has what it takes to grow, and I am here to provide the reflective space for that growth.

Great Relationships aren’t great because they have no challenges or struggles. Great relationships are great because individuals choose to find a way to make the relationship work. Sometimes, that includes relationship/family counseling. As a family and relationship therapist, I am here to help you work through the many challenges and struggles that often prevent couples/families from moving forward. I believe in individualizing treatment to help each family member/partner feel heard and loved.

I want to make sure that the client and I are a fit when it comes to rapport. That looks like feeling comfortable sharing content that might cause uncomfortableness due to fearing judgment. If established in the first meeting, I feel confident in working with those with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harming behaviors, family conflicts, grief, and performance issues in school, sports, or career (to name a few). I believe the treatment models that I use can build their resilience to deal with past, current, and future challenges.

Loss of jobs, relationships, chemical addiction, life transitions, trauma, abuse and the stress of day to day living come with an array of thoughts and emotions, which at some points in our lives can become overwhelming. We start to feel like nothing can get better, and began to self destruct or stay stuck, out of fear of the unknown or poor habits. My goal is to best assist and support people in living authentic, balanced lives; navigating increased self-awareness in social systems, past experiences, core beliefs and thoughts and their influence on our daily emotional states, behaviors and actions.

Certain life experiences can lead to negative subconscious programs and core beliefs that cause us to feel fear, anxiety, shame, disempowerment, or to live in some state of dysregulation and disconnection from our true selves. Healing is a holistic process and therapy can play a vital role in that process. I believe having the “right” support and guidance can make all the difference.

Let's face it — it's a big confusing world out there. And sometimes, we all need a little help to get through it. Hi, I'm Betheny. I have been working with kids and families for nearly a decade to do just that. Therapy can help people process trauma, cope with stressors, and allow them to live their best lives — and I feel honored and humbled to be part of that process.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Phoenix?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
