I am an expert in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have been part of NIMH research studies in CBT for depression conducted at UT Southwestern Medical School, where I held the rank of Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology. I initiated and taught the graduate course in CBT in the Rehab Psychology graduate program as well as teaching cognitive and behavior therapy to third year psychiatry residents at UT Southwestern. I employ a CBT approach to helping people with mood disorders, including depression, anxiety, panic and OCD.
I have been studying and practicing CBT for over 30 years! I have been a co-author of several articles and a book chapter. I created and taught the first academic course in Cognitive Therapy at UT Southwestern. I currently provide services to people from teen age to senior citizens.
Additionally I have had advanced training in treating couples for marital distress. I am an advocate of the marital therapy work of John Gottman, Ph.D. and trained with him in Seattle several years ago. I enjoy helping couples solve marital problems. My approach is informed by CBT as well.
