Finding a therapist who respects us is crucial. Having another person who understands us is a basic human need. At times what we do and think do not create a happy life. We may feel isolated, focus on the "negative" and find ourselves feeling wretched. We may turn to substance use or other behaviors to cope with discomfort. You and I will discuss your unique situation, what your behaviors and thoughts may be doing for you, and how they may be hindering your sense of wellbeing. We'll explore how to achieve comfort, acceptance and happiness. I look forward to nurturing your confidence, your strength and your wisdom.

You want to break free from painful relationship issues, self-defeating behaviors, and just feeling "stuck." The wonderful thing about therapy is that it provides you with a sense of relief - with hope that things CAN get better - by giving you a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space to speak freely about what is troubling you, or what is painful in your relationship. I work to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment that alleviates feelings of aloneness, and facilitates connection, awareness, healing and positive change.

I tend to be intuitive, supportive, flexible, challenging, creative and practical. I wonder, "How are you with yourself right now?" How can we now be with "what is" in a way that helpful? Big questions, good explorations. I have both creative and traditional methods to help you access hidden, healing aspects of yourself. I am willing and able to explore rough, soft, and complex terrain with you. I feel that all life is sacred and that we are here to help each other. I believe that when we are isolated from others and from ourselves, we are in trouble. Groups, individuals, and couples. I also train others in group work.

Have you ever been told you are "too sensitive" or feel as though being overwhelmed is a sign of weakness? Perhaps you have learned to withhold negative emotions, have become accustomed to people-pleasing, or it is difficult to set and maintain boundaries with others. If any of this resonates, I might be a good fit for you. My practice is grounded firmly in the belief that you should be seen, heard, and witnessed non-judgmentally, which helps facilitate a safe environment for your self-exploration. I am a queer-identifying, neurodivergent mental health counselor who works with individual teens and adults.

Remember to recognize joy and excitement when it happens. When you are feeling depressed or anxious-when you have just lost someone or have been through a difficult or traumatic event, it may be very difficult to enjoy or even notice life. I work with individuals, couples and families to help them grow to be stronger and to share the joy and reciprocity of build healthy connections and then grow into who they want and need to be.

Therapy can be life changing and challenging. Working with a therapist can help you see your own world differently, discover strengths within yourself that bring you a sense of confidence in making changes you want, and help you create the person you envision yourself becoming. If anxiety, depression, grief or loss have been disruptive factors in your life or if you are experiencing a new serious health issue or challenges in your spiritual life, then therapy may provide a path forward. It takes courage to reach out for help, but the rewards can be life changing.

Opening 1 additional Day of appointments - 9 openings available beginning in October. With grace, and humor, we'll work with you to address challenges impacting your health, happiness, and relationships with others. It's our philosophy that whatever affects our emotional health (isolation, depression, anxiety, trauma) will affect our physical well-being (appetite, sleep, weight gain). Not too many people enjoy change and these past few years have been nothing but a roller coaster! I'd enjoy the opportunity to talk with you and understand how you're doing. How have you been affected by changes? Is BreakThrough! right for you?

Perhaps you find yourself in a challenging life transition, processing a significant event or dealing with an obstacle that has left you feeling unsettled and disconnected from yourself. Whatever brought you here, you should be proud of yourself for taking this step toward personal growth. It's my belief that every person deserves the ability to discover, understand, and become the most authentic version of themselves. When we live authentically, it is about more than just being ourselves, it is understanding and owning who we truly are so that we may find more fulfillment and purpose in our lives.

My focus and passion is sexual health and I work with people of all ages. Sexuality is an important source of identity, connection and pleasure, but I also recognize the ways in which shame, trauma, and limited/unhelpful learning about sex contributes to a lot of common sexual problems and conflict in relationships. I support clients with a variety of goals including improving your sex life, dealing with sexual pain, working through sexual “dysfunctions,” exploring sexual preferences, and dealing with out-of-control sexual behavior. I also work with parents, teens and families on issues related to sexuality.

I have been working in counseling and mental health for over 30 years. In my practice, I work with both couples and individuals. Currently, I mainly work with couples using Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I like to focus on specific changes that my clients want in their lives, build on skills and mitigate the impact of old emotional and behavioral habits that no longer serve life as it is now. It is important to look at all aspects of life: mental, emotional, behavioral and spiritual; quality of relationships, even diet and exercise, in building a positive, satisfying and fulfilling life.

People go to therapy for various reasons and there may be no "right time" to start. I realized the first step of reaching out for help can be intimidating and I strive to make that process as simple and transparent as possible. My practice is centered on the idea that behavioral change is possible and constant. With a combination of social support, personal agency and opportunities, people can flourish to their full potential. It would be my honor to be a part of your journey toward healing and growth.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bow?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
