You may feel like you are lost alone in the woods with a broken compass, an overweight backpack, and holes in your boots. You think, “How can I continue like this?”, “What’s the point?”, “Does anyone even care?” You are exhausted, fearful, lonely, and unsure of what to do next. I want you to know that you do not need to travel alone. There is hope to surprise the weary. I 'm here to help you discover and experience a safe place along the journey to set down your backpack and rest, recover, regain your strength, and reflect upon where you have been, where you are going, and how best to continue on.

One of the beautiful things I have the privilege of witnessing as a therapist is the ever-evolving changes and awareness clients develop throughout their healing and growth process. I fully believe that each and every one of us is worth investing the work within ourselves when we develop the courage to seek help. I consider the therapeutic relationship with clients to be a team effort towards reaching the client’s desired goals and outcomes in a safe, non-judgmental space.

I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults (average age 13 to 25) who struggle with anxiety symptoms related to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have extensive experience in treating survivors of sexual abuse. I utilize exposure-based interventions, which are designed to help confront fears, expand comfort zones, and extinguish avoidance behaviors. I help to achieve trauma resolution by processing traumatic incidents, reducing the associated anxiety and anger, and assisting in therapeutic corrective experiences.

I specialize in working with people to reach their own potential. I have specialization in traumas; especially sexual and domestic violence. I understand that each client comes with their own history and abilities. I do not believe there is any set treatment plan for everyone and work to individualize each person's treatment. I understand that each person will experience their history, events, and self care differently.

It can be difficult to ask for help in today's society, and even more difficult to find the best fit in a therapist. As a trauma-informed queer biracial therapist, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental. My clinical background includes work with individuals managing co-occurring disorders, difficulties related to identity (e.g. racial, cultural, gender, spirituality), Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, ADHD, Autism, Trauma, PTSD, and grief. I work with individuals and couples at any point in their lifespan, though my background has primarily focused on young adults and families.

I work intentionally to provide a safe, nonjudgemental space to support people on their journey of self-discovery. I believe therapy can be a beautiful space to get to know oneself, one's desires, hopes and goals, and explore whether we're living our life day-to-day in a way that's true to that. I work with people who are wanting to get to know themselves deeper, make changes in the way they're living, navigate life transitions, and build self-compassion and confidence.

We often start the healing process feeling lost, unsure if we’ll ever feel better. Or maybe when life has knocked us down and we don’t know which way to go next, maybe it feels too hard to keep going. If any of these resonate with you, I’m glad you’re here. As a therapist, I work as a guide for my clients. I do my best to help you get in touch with that deep knowledge of what you need to do to heal by providing space to explore and dig deeper. I offer myself as a witness to your story, your life, your experiences, and as a mirror to your inherent worth.

Therapy is a healing relationship in which our pain can be held with care and compassion. Our pain is a compass that tells us something important about our experiences and what we need in order to heal. I view healing as finding a place of rootedness and expansiveness within ourselves so that it becomes more and more difficult for our experiences of pain and oppression to throw us off balance.

I place a heavy emphasis on authenticity, vulnerability, and connection when it comes to mental health. I believe that if addiction is a disease of isolation, then the solution to that is connection, with oneself and others. In my work with clients, I believe in helping them to cultivate self-acceptance, which leads to an improved sense of self-worth and greater love for oneself. Additionally, I encourage clients to have compassion for themselves, while having an appreciation for the therapeutic process. I consider it my role to help others discover and become their true self, so that what’s on the inside matches the outside.

In my experience as a counselor, I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of individuals in various settings. I have worked with children and adults in the community, residential, hospital, and educational settings. In each environment I have witnessed the marvel of human potential firsthand. As a clinician I approach people and the work that I do from the belief that people have the innate ability to grow and heal on their own. My personal life experience and my practice have fostered this belief, recognizing that the process may require or be made more manageable with some assistance or a guide, in the form of counsel

You may feel that everything is muddled, disconnected, or off-track. Perhaps you’re experiencing fogginess, adrift in a sea of not-knowing what to do, or how to gather the strength or focus to go about doing it. Your thoughts and emotions could be working against each other, resulting in a struggle to express what you really feel, want, or need to say. This may leave you feeling misunderstood and disconnected from yourself for so long that you start to accept it as the “new normal.” Continuing to short-change your needs could land you in a life circumstance you realize you never wanted. You do not have to live with this turmoil.

The majority of my work centers on trauma and recovery, which can look like a lot of things. I work primarily (but not exclusively!) with LGBTQ+ individuals, neurodivergent folks, and those who have experienced addiction. My practice is strongly aligned with fat liberation and HAES (Health at Every Size). I love working with creative folks or those aiming to pursue something hard/worthwhile. I'm also available to work with other white folks who are looking to engage in anti-racist work.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
