I specialize in the areas of grief and loss, particularly in working with young widows and bereaved men, and caregivers of those who are ill. I hope you will find working with me to be a safe, compassionate space in which to explore your experience, the story of your loss, the impact of grief in your everyday life, and progress towards building a life around your grief. My clients come to me with many areas of grief; challenging relationship dynamics or divorce, loss of a job or hope, change in health, or other significant life transition. My practice also addresses other areas of mental health, including anxiety and depression.

Do you find it difficult to muster the energy to start your day? Are you feeling crushed beneath the weight of stress or anxiety? Have you experienced loss or trauma that continues to impact your life and relationships? Many individuals experience these obstacles, and it's completely normal to feel overwhelmed at times. But imagine a life where each day feels like an opportunity rather than a challenge. It may seem daunting, but countless people have found their joy again, and you can too. I am passionate about helping others find their path to a meaningful and balanced life.

As both a therapist and yoga teacher, I believe we have the capacity to access our own inner knowing and sense of awareness. Sometimes we just need some redirection about how to get there. I believe in a compassionate approach to therapy, which expands resiliency, encourages self-agency, and invites discovery.

At Sequoia, I work with young people ages 14 - 25 years old. I appreciate supporting those who want to: increase their self-worth; experience emotions without being overwhelmed by them; improve their relationships with their family, friends, or significant others; examine the relationship between past events and current patterns; make changes in their behaviors that are consistent with their goals and values; and/or navigate oppression with more self-respect and advocacy skills. I have supported people of many identities, including people who identify as queer, NB, trans, POC, and neurodiverse.

The world is complex, no matter who you are or what your circumstances may be. Figuring out how to manage the realities of living in this world, in this moment, in this body, is something all of us must do. Whether you are a high school or college student experiencing anxiety or depression; a parent balancing personal, family, and work expectations; an adult going through a transition; or you are simply feeling tired and overwhelmed by the current political, social, and environmental challenges, I can provide helpful support as you move toward a future that reflects your values.

If you're reading this, you're thinking about how a regular video session with a therapist could help make your life better during these difficult times. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, where you feel validated, supported, and gently challenged. This balance is essential, as avoidance can hinder your progress and personal growth. I recognize the importance of your family of origin, background, and culture, as these factors play a crucial role in the therapeutic process. My goal is to encourage you to move forward at your own pace, while also inspiring you to push yourself in order to foster positive change.

Welcome. Are you looking for more joy and better relationships? My training has taught me to help people examine and describe the life they have, identifying areas in which they are "stuck," and reconnect to the life-goals that motivated them. Sometimes this stuckness has to do with certain feelings, sometimes it is about past traumas, often it shows up as repeating patterns in significant relationships, and sometimes it manifests as a malaise in which a direction in life seems impossible to find.

I see healing as the process of understanding the patterns that influence our perception of, and how we act within, the world that surrounds us. For many, these patterns might have been protective, at one point in time, though might not be serving our needs in the present. Therapy offers a space to feel seen, heard, and accepted. I believe that the individual is the expert on their life, and I trust their experience. I seek to follow the client while noticing my own curiosity that I have cultivated through schooling and experience working in the field of psychology.

I strongly believe that we all have the capacity for actualization and fulfillment in our lives as engaged human beings who are full participants in the world. Helping others through this journey is the main focus of what I do in my practice. Often psychotherapy and counseling are used to simply address issues and problems. If we were to use a number score to describe our lives, they get us from being in the negative to zero. The problem goes away. But we can employ these same skills and methods to get us beyond that. Why not hit a two, or a five, or even a ten? For me, this is the big picture of what therapy can offer.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Seattle?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
