I specialize in maternal mental health, supporting women struggling with infertility, and/or perinatal loss, and depression and/or anxiety during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Fertility issues and/or miscarriages can leave one feeling depressed, anxious, and stressed, yet isolated, and in need of someone to talk to. Support persons often do not know how to comfort a grieving mother after a pregnancy loss and unintentionally pressure the mother to move on. Psychotherapy can help to grieve the loss of a pregnancy within a supportive environment.
While pregnancy and new motherhood are often assumed to be idyllic periods in a woman's life, most women experience some stress during pregnancy and after the baby is born. Some expecting mothers feel conflicted over what kind of mother they will be or ambivalent about the impending changes in their life.
Similarly, some new mothers feel overwhelmed or experience difficulty bonding with their baby.
I also work collaboratively with lactation consultants to help new mothers through difficulties encountered breastfeeding newborns
