My way of being with a patient is interpersonal. It is founded on establishing an emotional connection with the person that comes to me to help them understand and hopefully resolve their intra as well as their interpersonal struggles. The importance of healthy exploration of who one is essential to being able to have healthy and growth producing relationships. Resolution to problems and change is not found in simple cookie cutter or templated solutions. For me personally psychotherapy is the way that I live my life. It is not a collection of techniques but a significant part of who I am.
My practice primarily focuses on long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy, and case consultation. I also work forensically although I no longer testify in court. I have also been conducting an ongoing continuing education psychodiagnostic group for other clinicians for 40+ years. It took a long time to make us the way we are and it takes time to change.
Psychotherapy is a deeply personal and private endeavor. Lasting change is difficult to achieve, challenging and... tremendously rewarding.
