And I don’t blame you! There’s no instruction manual to parenting. Counselling provides a safe space for kids to explore, express, and understand.
I work with kids from a play-based perspective. My approach allows kids to understand their feelings/experiences through a medium that makes sense to them. Kids do not have the ability to communicate the way adults do, but they know how to play. My goal is for kids to feel seen and heard, to recognize their emotions, and learn how to express and cope.
My warm and playful approach to practice also lends itself well in working with adult populations-- gentle curiosity, commitment to a goal, flexibility to shift direction, and the safety to explore. Therapy is often hard work. I believe it is important to celebrate the victories throughout the process, not only at the end.
