For close to 30 years I served the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ communities as a counsellor at the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT). I am now in private practice. As a gay man I have a particular interest in working with other gay/Bi/Queer men, but all are welcome. My approach is uncomplicated. I work from a client-centred, trauma-informed, psycho-social perspective, using a goal-oriented approach.
I believe psychological problems are partly based on skewed ways of thinking that result from early messaging and learned patterns. I will use my experience and knowledge to help you better understand yourself, what is going on in your life, and why. I can support, assist, and challenge you in your problem-solving, and help you find healthier ways of coping.
I believe we approach life with an unconscious understanding of how the world works and our place in it. That understanding is not always accurate but it dictates our thoughts, moods, feelings and actions. When we recognize and challenge these ways of thinking we can develop better coping skills, and a better understanding of what motivates those around us.
