Although my practice is not limited to people who identify as LGBTQIA+, my specialty is working with transgender and gender non-conforming people and helping them address issues such as coming out to family and friends, navigating school or work issues, changing identity documents, and coping with the many social and emotional changes that transition brings. I also understand that transgender is an umbrella term that encompasses many identities and not all people wish to or can afford to medically transition. I meet people where they are and help them navigate where they want to go.
People often don't come to therapy until they've tried to solve their problems themselves and nothing is working. I see my job as giving people the skills to solve these problems effectively so they can live more fulfilled lives. My approach is gentle and nonjudgmental in nature.
Before going into private practice I worked in a variety of different settings including inpatient at a state mental health hospital, agency work providing in-home therapy, and crisis work. This diversity in experience has greatly enriched my practice and allows me to successfully treat a variety of client concerns.
