Family / Marital Therapy Groups
Therapists in New York (NY) using the techniques of 'family therapy' work with families or couples both together and individually to help them improve their communication skills, build on the positive aspects of their relationships, and repair harmful or negative dynamics.

As an approach to therapy, 'family therapy' (also referred to as family systems therapy, marital therapy, marriage therapy, marriage and family therapy, marital therapy and family counseling) views change in terms of the systems of interaction between family members or couples.

Family relationships often affect psychological well-being and, regardless of the origin of an issue, or whether it may be the "individual" or "family" who is presenting it, involving the family in the solution can be of great benefit. Families participate directly in sessions during which the family therapist helps conversations in a way that draws upon and builds the strengths, wisdom and support of the wider family unit.

New York (NY) Support Groups and Group Therapy
Group therapy takes many forms. The groups are variously referred to (often interchangeably) as New York (NY) counseling groups, New York (NY) support groups, New York (NY) mutual support groups or peer support groups, self help groups, stress coping groups, workshops and mental health groups. They are moderated by a professional group counselor, group therapist or group psychologist and generally focus on a specific issue or client profile (e.g. men or women etc).

Before joining a New York (NY) support group, first see if the issue focus is consistent with your needs. If there are no groups offering support around your issue, feel free to contact these professionals in New York (NY) to ask for a referral to alternative groups nearby.
