People say my style is different from other counselors. "He's not the kind of counselor who just sits back and says uh-huh every few minutes." I am not shy about giving feedback and responding to my clients. Counseling is a relationship and I strive to create an engaging and healing dialogue from the beginning. Whatever your issue is, if it's not getting better with what you have been doing so far, now is the time to seek assistance. Call me to discuss your concerns and we can decide if I am the right resource for you.

Accepting New Clients starting…Making the decision and moving forward with seeking therapy is a huge step and usually, it’s the biggest challenge in therapy. From the moment you step through my door, you’ve already got someone in your corner. I take pride in offering a supportive, calm, accepting, and safe environment for my clients. Today’s environment makes it more difficult for us to find ways to create healthy coping skills. We will work together to identify thought patterns and behaviors, process your emotions, and explore your values and beliefs.

Life can be difficult at times and I meet each client where "they are" in life without any judgment or criticism. Stress and anxiety can come in many forms and many ways, which can lead to feelings of being "overwhelmed." All trauma is different and each client has a different response/reaction to the same experience. I work with ALL families, couples, and individuals in processing, understanding, and learning to cope on their journey through life.

I work best with clients who are ready to begin the sometimes difficult work of exploring who they are, setting goals, and discovering how to make changes to improve their lives. For those who are not quite sure where to begin I provide support, education, and a safe space to delve into the possibilities of how they might create the life they want.

I believe that people have amazing abilities to overcome the obstacles in their lives, to learn from their experiences and create a life in accordance with their values. My role as your therapist is to help facilitate your process of achieving your goals. I have a direct style that I mix with a sense of humor. I like to get down to work. Therapy isn't always fun but it can be life changing and I consider it an honor to be a part of your journey. Areas of special interest to me are depression/anxiety, trauma, stress, divorce, transitions, grief, and relationship concerns. I also offer intensive EMDR sessions up to 3 hours.

The moments in life that challenge our belief in ourselves can lead to feeling caught in a loop of frustration and anxiety. We all have the ability to rise from these moments. In our work together you will learn to greet the unknown with curiosity. You will gain trust in yourself that you are capable of moving forward authentically. You will allow yourself to lift into the fullness of your life again.

I genuinely care about working with others who are striving to find happiness. I work with individuals and couples who might be struggling to reach resolution, accept themselves, or find internal peace of mind. I am partial to using a creative and experimental approach with clients. However, depending on their situation, I'm more than happy to make adjustments as needed. My services include counseling couples, finding one's authentic self, adjustment issues, and grief counseling.

Accepting new clients. If you are here it is because you want a change, and change can be hard. I believe this is because through life we have learned to avoid those emotions, thoughts, and situations that are difficult for us, whether it be through distractions, substances, or other means, and wanting to avoid the difficult things is natural. However, avoidance can lead us away from those things that mean the most to us, leaving us feeling stuck and defeated. As an ACT therapist, I strive to give you the abilities to be with your difficult experiences, while you engage in actions and experiences that move you towards your values.

We each have a purpose in life. We deserve to feel and be safe. During our most challenging times along with the many changes and stressors we encounter through our life journey, including past trauma, grief/loss, poor self-acceptance, mental health challenges, and now the current pandemic, we may begin to feel lost and confused. Moving forward may seem impossible, making us feel stuck. We can get caught in a power struggle with our emotions, trapped in our own discomfort and chaos and this may no longer benefit us. Together, we can work at creating healthier changes, life patterns to return you to the quality of life you deserve.

Accepting new clients. As a counselor, it is my intention to give my clients the opportunity to tell me their story in a place where they are not judged and where they can begin to explore options for feelings and behaviors. The client-counselor relationship is about working together so the client can make positive changes in their lives. I see both couples & individuals. With couples, I can help people work on their relationship communication skills. I also work to help clients understand how past issues affect current choices and understand how thoughts and feelings affect behavior.

It takes courage to seek help and I admire those who do. Although I have worked with people with various issues through the years; trauma, grief, estrangement, anxiety and mood-related issues are primary interests. I enjoy working with teens, adults, and couples. Although I am trained in several approaches, I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. As a trained CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional), many of the skills I have gained through training apply to people with various life difficulties and challenges.

The Wildflower Intuitive Center is a place for individuals of all ages who are navigating a terminal illness, as will as their caregivers. My name is Corie Cook, and I am honored to work with terminally ill individuals and their caregivers. A stage four diagnosis brings emotional, spiritual concerns that can result in feelings of confusion, anxiety and sadness. Clients often worry about what their transition will be like, or how their loved ones will be supported. This is a practice designed to support this unique human experience. At Wildflower, illness is seen as a transition and death as a normal and beautiful process.

Counseling can be both an exciting and scary adventure kind of like getting on a rollercoaster, delighted for the ride but filled with butterflies. You’re looking for acceptance, and connection. You feel unloved, alone, or fight to understand your emotions. You desire the ability to stand up for yourself, create healthy relationships, and set boundaries. With the ever-growing pressure of societal expectations, you aim for perfection but often fall short of the finish line. The word balance brings hope; you ache for the ability to feel firmly rooted in who you are, gracefully adjust to change, and find steadiness in your thoughts.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
