Marriage & Family Therapist , MA , LMFT

Research shows consistently that no matter what counseling method is used, the connection between you and your counselor is the essential factor in you feeling better about yourself and your life. As such, I create a safe and supportive relationship with people. It is important that you feel heard, acknowledged and supported. This is the significant ingredient for your personal and relationship transformation. In addition to deep listening, it is also helpful to understand how to cope with difficult feelings and situations. Learning how to be resilient and knowing that you can support yourself through life's challenges will give you a sense of empowerment and self-esteem. I am active in the sessions, warm, supportive, and very practical.
My approach to couples counseling is Your relationship system is my client and as such, I believe that people create, maintain and live by spoken and unspoken rules in families. I think that all people are best understood in the family system. We choose partners to help us heal and work out our unresolved problems. My approach is to assume that you and your partner want to a loving, secure and close bond. As such, my approach is guided by Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
My approach is respectful, collaborative, optimistic and holistic. Since my training is in family therapy, I work with individual clients by understanding how a person relates to others based on the patterns learned in their most significant relationship experiences; usually their relationship with their parents. So your family history is important to me.

I highly recommend Megan Sigmon-Olsen, M.S.W., LGSW of Sentier Psychotherapy. She bonds exceptionally well with teens who exhibit a variety of struggles (academic difficulty, unstable peer relationships, power struggles with parents, self-harm behaviors, etc.). Megan understands teens and can also connect well with parents of teens. Family therapy is also a strength of Megan’s. She is able to work with many different types of families and is able to help family members sustain lasting change.
Renee relates to couples with a wide range of concerns in an empathic and straightforward way. Clients report feeling at ease in their work with her. I highly recommend Renee for individual and couples therapy.
