Progress, not perfection. This is a concept that is often hard to wrap our brains around because we have been conditioned to believe that we have to have it all together at all times, but this is not the reality. Healing is a messy process, and it is the baby steps that add up to crossing the finish line at the end. The process can be difficult and frustrating, but so worth it. I want to thank you for taking this first step towards building a better you.

Change is an inevitable part of life, it is also something we often fear and resist. As your therapist I assist you in activating your motivation and developing skills to guide you through the process. Whether your motivation is coming from a personal or relationship crisis, a long term difficulty, or simply the desire to create a better, happier future - I use therapy as a guided exploration toward solutions and the development of skills necessary for creating change. Learning WHAT, and HOW to change is at the core of my training, experience and my approach to therapy with clients.

Identity exploration is the heart of transformative therapy. You absolutely deserve to feel grounded in who you are, and it is my privilege to help clients explore the patterns or hardships causing inner turmoil. People often come to me with histories of emotional abuse, difficult upbringings, or toxic romantic relationships. Some feel stuck or alone in their current circumstances, and they want help navigating a tender transition. The introspective nature of therapy can be vulnerable, but the healing is often profound. Wherever you are on your journey, I will strive to help you build a more authentic and meaningful life.

I believe all individuals carry heavy questions about their life: Why am I here? What am I supposed do? Why do I feel bad? The weight of these thoughts can cause distress in our minds and bodies. All age groups bear these questions, albeit in different ways and expressions. There are not simple answers, yet you can find healing through the universality of exploring your meaning. I believe in your power to heal and your desire to feel whole. I believe you are doing the best you can do with the tools you have. And I will listen and support you, welcome shadows and joys equally, and will encourage you to do the same.

Many times disruptions in life occur because we are out of alignment with our purpose, our people or our passion. Life transitions (chronic health diagnosis, aging parents, launching children into college and life, for example) create stress that mis-aligns our emotional well-being and we sometimes resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms that only exacerbate our dis-ease with life both present and future. I utilize a person-centered approach and will meet you where you are to address issues of your concern.

As a Latina woman in Northwest Arkansas I have often struggled with identity. Constantly navigating between cultures can be detrimental to our self identity. This "otherness" often leads to anxiety and depression that seems inescapable. Learning to own all parts of ones self is crucial to mental wellbeing and to understanding the self. Or maybe you struggle with other issues like anxiety, depression, or ADHD (to name a few) and you don't feel like you have a community who understands how difficult that can be on your mental health.

I believe in the concept that people can not start from where they want to be, but have to begin their journey from where they are. We as people go through many challenges in our lives.  Sometimes we find ourselves struggling day to day, having to somehow meet all our ever-growing responsibilities. Some of us struggle with the pain we carry from our pasts, and it can feel as if this hurt is holding us back from finding joy in our present days. Some of us struggle with feelings we may not even understand.  We can feel burdened by these intense feelings and may not know how to move forward from these emotional and mental binds.

You are doing great! . . . mostly. Yes, there's the rising tension in your marriage and recently one of you used the "D" word. Or you worry about money or you worry about your kids because maybe they are lazy or don't respect you. Or you worry about your parents who are aging. You are good at your job but work doesn't fulfill you. You might be spending more and more time alone with your thoughts, and you find them difficult companions. They might make you feel like you are drowning in anger and sorrow. You are doing great, but sometimes it feels like you are hanging on by a thread. Or maybe the thread has already snapped.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Rogers?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
