A counselor is a client's true ally. Someone who is actively invested in understanding your experiences, emotions, and behaviors can be a powerful tool in helping guide you toward change. The genuine connection between counselor and client can foster a better understanding of self and lead the client to take charge of their own life path. I am honored to be some small part of a client’s journey towards fulfillment. To me, each person's differences make the world a more vibrant place. I hope to celebrate what makes each client unique and also build a connection to what makes us all human.

You are not alone. When the storms of life hit and we feel at our lowest, it is hard to see that this trouble will end or that there are brighter days ahead. It is also hard to know where to start on our journey to feeling better. You don't have to do this alone. As a licensed psychologist, it is my honor to walk alongside individuals as they face challenges of many kinds. I help individuals draw on their inherent strengths and deliver sound and ethical treatment. I believe people change most when they feel supported and safe, and my primary focus is creating a safe space and trusting relationship between myself and my client.

Welcome...if you've noticed a shift in your own or your child’s mental health or if your teenager is distancing themselves, you're in the right place. If you are struggling with anxious feelings, confidence, and managing life transitions, that is okay. Being human comes with challenges for all of us, no matter what. It can be difficult to figure out how to navigate the transitions of school or work, relationships, and family dynamics. The first step of reaching out is the hardest. My goal is to welcome you into therapy with genuine care and work collaboratively with you and/or your child to heal and grow.

My name is Iesha Anderson. I was born and raised in Houston, TX and graduated from Prairie View A&M University. I also attended Texas Southern University with a Bachelors in Psychology. Academics were a very important part of my life. I realized at an early age that education was vital to my future success in life and the life of others. I have always had a passion for counseling and helping since the first day I sat in my psychology course during my journey in undergraduate school. My experience in Real Estate, taxes, customer service, and mental health has equipped me with the ability to relate and understand where others are coming from. I have always had a passion for special populations and was blessed to find a career that combined my love for both, families and individuals.

People of all ages and walks of life can benefit from therapy, because therapy is really for anyone wanting to improve their life. Sometimes problems are concrete and clear, other times, people know that something isn’t quite right, but they can’t identify what is causing them unhappiness or stress. Therapy works because there are times in everyone’s life when they can use help to overcome the obstacles that stand in their way. Problems come in many shapes and sizes, both large and small, and therapy is a good space in which such problems can be addressed.

My ideal client is anyone who is ready to take a step forward and work on their mental health. I don't care about any other aspect of you as long as you are willing to have the tough conversations that are necessary for delving deeper into yourself. I am willing to work with any age, gender, nationality, etc. imaginable and hold no preference for working with any particular denomination versus another. The only requirement you must have is a desire to learn more about yourself and be open to new experiences (or old ones if you've been to therapy before). Being a part of your journey would mean the world to me.

*BETTER MEN, HUSBANDS & DADS* Sometimes it can feel like you've failed or haven't lived up to your loved ones (or even your own) expectations. Vulnerability can be hard, and because you're used to being the one to "fix" things, it seems there's no one who can understand or help you. You may not know what direction it takes to become the husband or father that you need to be, or maybe you know the direction but simply can't make it happen. You might feel alone, defeated, overwhelmed and just want to figure out how to make things better now.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom” - Viktor E. Frankl Do you feel disconnected and trapped by the experiences of your past? Does life’s ups and downs have you frozen in autopilot, stuck in a cycle where you can’t find relief? Do you keep pieces of yourself hidden from those around you, carrying guilt and shame that are not your burden to bear? Oftentimes, the space between acknowledging we are struggling and finding the courage to reach out can feel overwhelming.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in The Woodlands?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
