Most of us develop ways of seeing and engaging the world through 'habits of mind' which may create suffering, lead to anxieties, depression, negative self image, or unsatisfying relationships. Sometimes suffering emerges because of a particular stress in our lives; sometimes it has been a long unwanted companion we can't shake. With guidance and personal effort, we can discover and gradually free ourselves from self-defeating habits of mind. Individuals who may especially benefit from my approach are those who would glimpse beneath the surface of temporary symptoms to the enduring habits of mind which get in our way.
I work with adult individuals for varying periods, depending their issues and what they wish to accomplish. I enjoy working with couples not at risk of divorce or parting, who seek to improve communication and mutual understanding. I also specialize in group psychotherapy, presently lead one 'Interpersonal Process' group.
40 years of training and experience in a variety of mental health settings have exposed me to many different approaches and ways of understanding people and the challenges we face. My practice today integrates psychodynamic and Buddhist (i.e. mindfulness) psychologies with amazing contributions from today's rapidly developing neuroscience. I also offer EMDR.

Groups
Interpersonal Process Group
These are open-ended, interactive groups for men and women. They benefit those who generally function well, but may be dissatisfied in relationships, with themselves or experience anxiety or depression. Process groups are ideal settings for exploring our characteristic interpersonal style, both in its problematic aspects, and strengths and valued qualities we may not fully appreciate. The confidentiality and honesty guiding group work allow us to experiment with our behavior, and ultimately develop greater flexibility and skill in use of self, leading to a deepening self-acceptance and connection with others.
