Navigating and healing from difficult life events can leave you feeling lost or overwhelmed. Together, we can build more resilient ways to relate to yourself and those important to you. As part of this work, I create space for reflection and intentional growth, helping clients find ways to strengthen their connections with others.

Finding a therapist can be hard. Finding a therapist you feel that ‘click’ with can be even harder. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to finding someone you trust enough to help you take that initial leap of faith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have almost 20 years of experience in this profession. My focus is adults 18+ with depression, anxiety disorders and mood disorders. I also have specialties in trauma and transgender healthcare. I am experienced in assessing readiness for gender affirming surgeries (using the most recent WPATH criteria) and writing letters of readiness for those meeting criteria.

I work with people who are coping with trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, addiction, and stress from various life changes or challenges. I believe that therapy should be an accessible and welcoming experience! I use Internal Family Systems therapy (I'm IFS Level 2 trained) and Motivational Interviewing to support the different parts of my clients as they seek to make changes in their lives. Change can be a scary process, but you don't have to go through it alone. Together, we'll work to understand your goals for therapy and harness your strengths to meet them.

Are you a parent who is stressed and burned out of navigating the ups and downs of parenting or trying to deal with other life stressors while being a parent? Is this leading to losing your temper, irritability, tiredness, shutting down, or excessive amounts of parent guilt? Or maybe you’re not a parent, but your anxiety is getting in the way of fully engaging and enjoying life. The “what if’s” and “if only’s”, planning and running through those plans repeatedly, or just having a non-stop busy mind in general can make it really difficult to enjoy anything. I would love to help you!

Change and challenges are a constant in life. Chronic anxiety, grief, loneliness, and sadness make it hard to identify or talk to others about our needs. Therapy can decrease our sense of isolation by normalizing life's challenges while providing opportunities for growth. These experiences begin the healing process that allows us to open ourselves up to new ways of being and experiencing the world around us.

"Whatever we think we believe. Whatever we believe becomes reality. Whatever is our reality becomes the basis for our hopes, fears and choices." Dhammapada. Sometimes the first step in improving our life situation is asking for help. But once that first step is taken, even if it is taken out of desperation, our willingness to make changes can lead to lives filled with hope, joy and peace. My experience is with individuals who experience a variety of life problems, particularly addiction; the issues that arise from addiction and those that led to addiction.

Michael Scott from The Office once said "Society teaches us that having feelings and crying is bad and wrong. Well, that's baloney, because grief isn't wrong. There's such a thing as good grief. Just ask Charlie Brown." As a therapist, I would agree with Michael and add that all feelings are right and good and meaningful but sometimes we can get stuck in negative thought patterns, relationship conflicts, painful feelings or avoidance strategies. We sometimes need help to create and develop new tools for handling those difficult thoughts or situations.

Effective therapy requires attunement to ourselves and being present with all the parts of ourselves. By tuning into ourselves we begin to notice the narratives that we have formed to interpret our experiences. I support clients in recognizing, listening, and attending to all parts of themselves which will lead to healing and growth. We will work to revise old narratives in a way that better suits you. I work to support clients in finding the inner wisdom they possess and help them discover their own light.

You are busy, hardworking, and known to be capable. On the outside, you’ve got it together but on the inside you’re wondering how to keep your head above water. Stress, anxiety, or distress from obsessive-compulsive (OCD) disorder is too much to take on alone. You're saying "yes" more than you should and losing track of who you are while you succeed in making things ok for everyone else. You have a mind that you can’t turn off and you could really use a moment of peace. Emotions are coming up and out at times you didn't plan. It's hard to be joyful because you wonder, "when is the other shoe going to drop?" Something’s got to give.

The narratives of life can leave us feeling rough and jagged. Sometimes we need someone to come alongside us as we navigate the rapids, and discover the beauty and new form waiting in still waters. I consider being a part of this process to be a privilege and an honor. I serve children birth-adolescence, families, and adults. I am able to address a variety of needs, with a specialization in serving those who have experienced trauma. I provide an encouraging, supportive, attuned, relationship-focused environment, that is mindful of culture, and, if desired, incorporates faith into the work.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
