It’s gratifying to work with motivated, insightful, resilient Clients. I know it takes real courage to challenge long held beliefs and adopt different narratives. Growing insight often impacts long held roles within family systems (families of origin, families of creation, blended families often including previous partners, our chosen families, circle of friends). As new perspectives are internalized behaviors change. Systems resist change. That resistance is meant to return the system to its, “normal,” is often punishing and makes change difficult. Change is never easy - even when the change is good, it’s never easy. Let's talk!

Perceptive, motivated people encounter barriers all the time, but may be uncertain how to get help because to the outside world they seem to be doing just fine. Perhaps you or your child aren't able to achieve up to potential, feel worried about things in life, have trouble focusing or getting things done, or feel tension and conflict in relationships with others. Talented people can lose sight of their many strengths, and need support in figuring out what is keeping them from functioning at their best.

FOR DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, RELATIONSHIPS, ADDICTION, TRAUMA: I blend psychology and spirituality to treat uncomfortable emotions, relationship issues, feelings of isolation, the monkey mind of the ego, as well as heavy, stuck energy that needs releasing. Psychodynamic therapy, guided meditation, and shamanic modes of healing can help shift the way you think and feel. As Einstein put it: "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it." Using an integrative approach we will connect with your higher self and beyond to experience real transformation and change of consciousness.

My specialty is Health Psychology. Health Psychology focuses on how our biology, psychology, spirituality, and social factors influence our health and illness. It recognizes the strong connection between our body and our mind. The word ‘health’ has roots defining it as wholeness. While illness may challenge our sense of self, I believe wholeness can be found. Major life events or changes in our health can cause us to reflect on our priorities and desire for change. Holding space for inner emotional work can empower us to make the changes necessary to create the life we want.

I create a space that feels safe, encouraging, and collaborative so that you can explore your life experiences and feel supported in moving toward a healthy and vibrant life. Therapy is a place to learn and try out new skills, such as managing difficult emotions or improving communication. Therapy is also a space in which people can feel deeply heard and connected, and I believe a strong relationship between a therapist and client can be profoundly helpful when going through a period of healing and growth.

If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder, chronic illness, professional burnout, or other sources of chronic emotional dysregulation, I believe there is hope for you. If you have tried traditional talk therapy and felt like you didn't make much progress, you may benefit greatly from trauma specific treatment, or from a more practical, skills-based approach to therapy like Dialectical Behavior Therapy that is aimed at helping you to build the life that you want, to move toward your values, and to change the behaviors that may be getting in the way of your goals.

Sometimes we can’t share how we really feel, even with the people we're closest to. Maybe you worry about burdening others or hope things will just get better. Perhaps you avoid your feelings or overthink them to exhaustion. Whatever it is, you don’t have to face it alone. Having experienced my own struggles in life has inspired my passion to help others. As a therapist, I've seen firsthand how depression, anxiety, and trauma can leave you feeling isolated and out of control. I want to be a beacon of hope. I want to help you tap into your inner strength, regain your confidence, and help you make lasting positive changes.

Do you ever feel alone, lonely, confused, angry, and don't know why or how to cope with these emotions? Complex emotions can hijack our day-to-day lives leaving us feeling defeated. Sometimes we are not taught adaptive ways to cope at an early age making it hard to manage our stressors. Our stressors can affect our emotions and how we behave due to those feelings, which can create tension in our interpersonal relationships and how we view ourselves. I believe in having a trusting, genuine, and collaborative relationship with my clients to show them trust, acceptance, and healing can be attainable.

The path to living the life you want begins where courage and fear meet. When we are low in courage and high in fear we feel unsettled, busied, strained and eventually-void of hope. The thought that life will get better or that we will feel better becomes hijacked by the void. Our day to day begins to feel meaningless. This absence of meaning can be experienced as emptiness, sadness, loneliness, despair and misery. It can also be experienced as restlessness, irritability, avoidance, stomachaches, headaches and illness. These experiences drive our thoughts, beliefs, decisions and behaviors and can lead to mental and physical decline.

I started focusing on EMDR when I noticed a limit that was often reached time and time again with more traditional talk therapy. Seeing people get to the core of present triggers and reactions that hold them back is amazing to see and be a part of. Making new connections and weakening old ones that don't serve is an exhausting but worthwhile endeavor. EMDR sessions can be done in a therapeutic hour and sometimes some talk and processing sessions are needed in between.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Ventura?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
