As a 26-year military veteran, I am highly aware of the unique traumas and stressors facing our nation's veterans. Having led the first male/female intelligence collection team in the Middle East and many more afterwards, I had extensive opportunities to see, discuss, and understand the unique problems experienced by female veterans while deployed. I have helped many male and female veterans address lifelong consequences of poor parenting, childhood domestic violence, incest, sexual assault, bullying, and many other issues. I have also helped many families dealing with grief, separation/divorce, infidelity, betrayal, and narcissim/antisocial personality.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is rarely the result of a single traumatic event. It is most often associated with predisposition and a lifetime of prior events. Unfortunately, without guided intervention, we are often unable to understand how people, places, and events influence how we see, understand, and respond to future events.
The "Storyboarding" method I developed helps individuals understand how people, environment, and events in our past influence how we view, understand, and respond to emerging life events. It has proven to be highly effective in helping trauma survivors understand and deal with past events and develop coping strategies for future events.
